Can't upload avatar in .jpg format

When I try to upload avatar in .JPG i see : Fatal error: Call to undefined function: imagecreatefromjpeg()
and avatar is not saved.

With avatars in .gif everythink is OK.

Is that just when you try to upload it directly from your computer?
Have you tried to upload it at a site like www.tinypic.com then getting the direct link to your avatar and pasting that into the appropriate section in your profile?

I'm not sure why it's not working, sorry.
